Shastriji Maharaj was born as Dungar Bhagat in Mahelav in 1865. His sharp memory, scriptural interest and devotion were visible from an early age.

After becoming Sadhu Yagnapurushdas, his scholarship earned him the name Shastriji Maharaj. He remained steadfast in teaching Akshar-Purushottam upasana despite sustained opposition.

He built five mandirs in which Akshar and Purushottam were worshipped together. His perseverance joined rigorous understanding with practical devotion and prepared the way for Yogiji Maharaj’s succession.
